Jubilarian – 2009
Rosalyce Tinglof, SSND
Professed in 1949
Sister Rosalyce Tinglof celebrates 60 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She has ministered as a teacher, caregiver and volunteer.
A meaningful time in my ministry…
I was a first grade teacher in two inner city schools, St. Elizabeth and St. Leo. I met many beautiful people, especially Loretta Turnage. These people had a hunger for education and made many sacrifices to have their children come to our schools. I found out how gifted and talented these children and adults were. These were gifted years for me.
What drew you to the SSND Community?
My eighth grade teacher, Sister Lucienne, suggested I consider becoming a Notre Dame sister. I applied and in my formation, my love of Notre Dame grew.
What would you like people today to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
We have many holy sisters. The prayers of our elderly sisters are powerful. The ministries of our active sisters are wonderful. We have a world view for we are an international community. Out mission is to especially serve the poor, women and children and to care for the earth and share its resources.
What is your current ministry?
My current ministry is prayer and presence at Clare Meadows, a place for senior citizens. It is an ecumenical setting. I pray, play and eat with them. I also volunteer at a meal sit. I do a lot of listening and I am asked by many for prayers.
Is there anything else that you would like to share?
I am both proud and humbled to be a School Sister of Notre Dame.
