Mary Margit Loeffler, SSND
Professed in 1939
Sister Mary Margit Loeffler celebrates 70 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She ministered as a needle worker, student, nurse, nurse practitioner, supervisor, community leader and dental assistant.
A meaningful time in my ministry…
The many years I had the privilege to serve, support and work with the sick, suffering and dying sisters from several provinces, as a nurse in Elm Grove, were especially meaningful to me. I was enriched by their life of fidelity and faith-filled struggles in illness and in death.
What drew you to the SSND Community?
I met the School Sisters of Notre Dame when I went to needlework school on Saturdays in Welheim, Germany. The kindness shown by the sisters to each student drew me to SSND.
What would you like people today to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
I would like people today to know our internationality and how education permeates the core of our diverse ministries.
What is your current ministry?
I retired from nursing in 1993. Since then, I have enjoyed working a few hours a week as a receptionist in the dental clinic at Notre Dame of Elm Grove. Gardening, cooking and baking filled many hours of my early retirement, but now praying, reading and computer games are my interests.
Is there anything else that you would like to share?
I have spent a happy community life as a School Sister of Notre Dame.
