Rosemarie Esdepsky, SSND
Professed in 1939
Sister Rosemarie Esdepsky celebrates 70 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She ministered in education as teacher, administrator and librarian / media specialist.
A meaningful time in my ministry…
My years in Chinatown were especially fulfilling. From 1942-1946, a group of us traveled by streetcar from a neighboring convent, St. Peter & Paul, to teach the children of Chinese immigrants. We were helping the poorest of the poor, especially as they struggled to learn the English language and learn about God. Chinatown was located in a heavily populated, industrial section of Chicago, Illinois.
What drew you to the SSND Community?
In grade school and high school, I was educated by SSNDs, and especially inspired by Sister Alice Roepke and Sister Othildis.
What would you like people today to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
I would like people to know that we have remained faithful to our priority of Catholic education for the past 175 years, especially for women and the poor.
What is your current ministry?
I am part of our retirement community at Notre Dame of Elm Grove (NDEG), where our prayer and presence enables us to reach out to others, sisters as well as lay people, in whatever their need may be.
Is there anything else that you would like to share?
I would like to thank all our benefactors for providing this beautiful home and life for us, through their financial support and faithful friendship.
