Jubilarian – 2009
Dorothy Cherrier, SSND
(Former religious name: Mary Roy)
Professed in 1949

Sister Dorothy Cherrier celebrates 60 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She ministered as teacher, nurse’s aide, secretary, administrator and volunteer.
A meaningful time in my ministry…
After 27 years in the classroom, I was led to other roles as a nurse’s aide for our sick sisters and a secretary on both the provincial and generalate levels. Each new ministry showed the hand of God, as one ministry led to the next and helped me to be able to be for others in many ways and now culminating in my peaceful years of retirement.
What drew you to the SSND Community?
What drew me to the SSND community were the sisters who taught me in elementary and high school. I wanted to do what they were doing and my parents were very open to that life for me.
What would you like people today to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
Though our numbers may be less, our prayers for former pupils and for the lives of all we touch are many. We continue to rejoice in the good we see in the world and ask for help for those who suffer.
What is your current ministry?
My present ministry is retirement and volunteering where needed. The extra time for prayer is a plus for these golden years.
