M. Miranda Buesseler, SSND
Professed in 1934

Sister M. Miranda BuesselerSister M. Miranda Buesseler celebrates 75 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She ministered as a teacher at elementary and secondary schools

A meaningful time in my ministry…
My chemistry and physics students were so good, that I could write excellent recommendations for them for college and/or scholarships. We never got a single “no”!

What drew you to the SSND Community?
When I graduated from the eighth grade at St. James School in Madison, Wis., Molly Marx (Sister Leontine) also graduated from Dominican High School. We were helping Sister Viola Mertz (our former seventh grade teacher) get her classroom ready for the janitor’s big cleaning job. Sister Viola said to Molly: “Come to the convent now and try on your dress.” I had always wanted to be a nurse, but our of my mouth came the words: “I want to go to the convent, too!”

What would you like people today to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
The School Sisters of Notre Dame are excellent teachers. They are also kind and helpful in community.

What is your current ministry?
My current ministry is to serve in retirement by my prayer and presence at Notre Dame of Elm Grove. I am a “buddy” to Sister Perpetuella.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?
I thank God everyday that He chose this life for me. He heard my parents’ prayers for a blessed future for me.
