Carol Berres, SSND
(Former religious name: Raymian)
Professed in 1949
Sister Carol Berres celebrates 60 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She ministered as a teacher, school administrator, librarian / media specialist and pastoral care worker.
A meaningful time in my ministry…
My early teaching years were with first and second graders at St. Mary’s School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. All in all, they were a fine group of youngsters and I missed them after I left there. During the 1970s, I ran the Mount Mary College bookstore for six years. At Notre Dame of Elm Grove, I opened a pastoral ministry department and had 40 mission sisters assisting me.
What drew you to the SSND Community?
I was drawn to SSND by the sisters who taught me in grade school.
What would you like people today to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
I would like people to know that we are a good teaching order and a well-run community.
What is your current ministry?
I am retired at Notre Dame of Elm Grove. I pick up jobs wherever I can – ministering to the sick and elderly. I have the opportunity for private prayer. Also, in our community, we pray together and help one another where help is needed.
Is there anything else that you would like to share?
I thank God that I made it to age 79 and my 60th Jubilee.
