Global Justice & Peace

Shalom = Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation

Sisters pray in observance of International Peace Day 2008Education is our call, justice is our challenge. Impelled by the spirit of Jesus Christ, the pursuit of justice, peace and integrity of creation is an inherent part of what it means to be a School Sister of Notre Dame. Our charism reflects a call for social justice rooted in the Gospel message and Catholic Social Teaching.

“A particular concern in all ministries is the establishment of a just society. We call ourselves and others to embody gospel values and to live the social teachings of the church. Working toward the enablement of persons and the promotion of human dignity, we contribute to positive systemic change in society.”
- You Are Sent, Dir. #33

Called to solidarity with all creation, we pursue and promote social justice through prayer and reflection, education, and action. We strive for actions which lead to reconciliation, solidarity with the oppressed, the promotion of human dignity, and collaboration with ecological movements to safeguard the earth. In other words, we commit ourselves to promote the culture of life. Urged by the love of Christ and of our sisters and brothers, we work actively toward enhancing just structures that foster fullness of life and toward changing unjust structures that inhibit it.

- You Are Sent, Constitution #17

Sisters, associates, and our friends work on a variety of social justice issues here in the United States, at the United Nations (as an NGO), and throughout the world. Will you join us?
