Picture of Sister Frances Mary

Mary Immaculata Zoelle, SSND
Professed in 1958

Sister Mary Immaculata Zoelle celebrates 50 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She has ministered as a nursing assistant and in community service.

A meaningful time in my ministry…
I was privileged care for our sick sisters as a certified nursing assistant. Being with our dying sisters provided me with some graced moments. It was a great joy to minister to our sick and infirm sisters.

What drew you to the SSND Community?
The example of my teachers at St. Henry School in Watertown, especially to later years had a great influence on me.

What has it meant to you to be a sister through the years?
I have been blest and filled with joy never regretting going into the convent at a young age. I never doubted that I am where I belong. My life is fulfilling and rewarding.

What would you like people to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
We are dedicated daughters of Mother Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger. In serving the needs of all, God’s people, we joyfully celebrate life.

What words of encouragement or wisdom would you offer to a woman exploring the possibility of a vocation as a woman religious?
I would say pray, listen, and talk to someone who can help you and give you some direction. The Lord is still inviting women to join Him to follow Him in the consecrated life. It takes sacrifice and dedication.

What is your current ministry?
I am currently a care giver. I am caring for my mother at her home in Watertown, WI. I return to Elm Grove each month for about four days.

Is there anything else that you like to share with people about your life?
I transferred from another congregation at the time of Vatican II in 1970. The time of transfer was like coming home for me, and it brought deep serenity. I cannot describe the incredible happiness I have found in the religious life.
