Patricia Ann Obremski, SSND
(Previous religious name: Sister Bernard Cecile)
Professed in 1958

Sister Patricia Ann Obremski celebrates 50 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She has ministered as a teacher, college professor and writer.

A meaningful time in my ministry…
In 2006 I received Mount Mary College’s Excellence in Teaching award. This award originates with a student proposal then goes to a faculty oversight committee for the final decision. The introductory tribute left me speechless. I never walk into the classroom alone; the Spirit is with me and I have experienced inspiration on numerous occasions.

What drew you to the SSND Community?
The sisters I know had something (Someone) and I wanted that same thing. They were truly happy.

What has it meant to you to be a sister through the years?
Since I am an only child, being a “sister” to so many was/is an eye-opener! To say the least. Being a “sister” has become my identity. I have enfleshed this relationship. Community is an interesting family.

What would you like people today to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
We are authentic seekers of truth. A bridge between the secular and the divine. Prayers and service are the ways we communicate this truth.

What words of encouragement or wisdom would you offer to a woman exploring the possibility of a vocation as a woman religious?
Go for it! If you are really called, you will find the means to persevere; you will find fulfillment and others will benefit. Live each moment, and then tack it on to the next one. This moment (the present one) is all we have to savor – and it is rich and juicy.

What is your current ministry?
I work in the physics department at Mount Mary College. I teach. My classroom / lab are in the new Gerhardinger Center and I minister with some dedicated faculty in the science division. I teach general physics, meteorology, astronomy, basic chemistry, physics, “Search for Solutions” (ACSI focused course), “Physics Today” (for non-science majors), and “God and the New Physics” in the theology department.

Is there anything else that you would like to share with people about your life?
I love it – with all its aches and pains, joys and blessings! I also write poetry, and other things, and am published.
