Margaret Ann Murawski, SSND
(Previous religious name: Sister Stanella)
Professed in 1958

Sister Margaret Ann Murawski celebrates 50 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She has ministered as a teacher.

A meaningful time in my ministry…
It has been especially meaningful when my students have taken their knowledge of Spanish and used it in volunteer work among the poor in Central and/or South America. Also, living in SSND community of various sizes (28 down to two) has been a very enriching experience for me.

What drew you to the SSND Community?
I always wanted to be a sister. In sixth grade I had Sister Geraldine for CCD classes. Then in seventh and eighth grades I attended St. Anthony’s in Detroit, Michigan were the SSNDs taught. I was drawn to them because they were a teaching community and I wanted to teach.

What has it meant to you to be a sister through the years?
Being a sister has been very important to me because I have been able to serve God’s people, particularly the youth.

What would you like people to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
We are still alive and well! We continue to serve God’s people through education in various ministries.

What words of encouragement or wisdom would you offer to a woman exploring the possibility of a vocation as a woman religious?
A life of serving God’s people is very rewarding. The friendship and companionship of the sisters in community are a great support.

What is your current ministry?
I am a teacher of Spanish at Pacelli High School in Stevens Point, WI. I teach all levels of Spanish from freshmen through seniors.

Is there anything else that you would like to share with people about your life?
I am very happy in my life. If I had to do it over, I would make the same choice of vocation.
