Angeleen Brill, SSND
Professed in 1948

Sister Angeleen Brill celebrates 60 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She has served as a teacher, tutor and volunteer. Sister currently ministers through her prayer and presence.

A meaningful time in my ministry…
Most of my ministry was very ordinary, working with young children or the elderly. For a few summers I taught the Hmong and Laotian adults who influenced me by their inherent simplicity and goodness. For several years I ministered monthly to the very poor at a food pantry.

What drew you to the SSND Community?
I was greatly influenced by the SSNDs I knew from kindergarten throughout high school.

What has it meant to you to be a sister through the years?
Being a Sister has helped me grow in my relationship with God and to develop friendships with my religious sisters. It also enabled me to meet many wonderful children and adults who have enriched my life.

What would you like people to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
The SSNDs are a congregation of sisters ministering to the poor (and others) in countries throughout the world. Our goal is to bring all people and creation to oneness with God.

What words of encouragement would you offer to a woman exploring the possibility of religious life?
I would meet informally with her and answer any questions she had concerning religious life. I would suggest to her that she keep in close touch with God so she can hear what He is calling her to be. I would connect her with our vocation directress who can help her connect with other Sisters.

What is your current ministry?
My current ministry is prayer and presence and service at Notre Dame Elm Grove. I assist the sisters on the NDEG Theresa 2 nursing care wing as well as visit a nursing home. Once a month I minister to the poor at a food pantry.
