Transportation/Maintenance Worker

Status: Full time
Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. plus weekend on call rotation

The Transportation / Maintenance worker primarily transports residents to appointments and outings and keeps appropriate records.  In addition, performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to include plumbing, electrical, painting, grounds upkeep and snow removal. 

Education
Requires education equivalent to graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience
Experience in a mechanical and repair position with exposure to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.  Previous maintenance or other work experience in a health care setting a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Must possess a valid Wisconsin drivers license with a safe driving record.
  2. Must have a good working knowledge of Milwaukee and surrounding communities (streets, roads, highways and major travel routes.
  3. Good understanding of basic plumbing, electrical, pneumatics and hydraulics.
  4. Good understanding of basic heating and cooling equipment and its operation.
  5. Ability to operate power equipment.
  6. Ability to communicate with compassion and patience, particularly with older adults.
  7. Ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  8. Understanding of health care requirements for elderly residents and/or the ability to learn as required.
  9. Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer and/or other computer systems at an intermediate skill level.

Physical Requirements

  1. Physical strength to lift objects weighing forty (40) to one hundred (100) pounds (with assistance).
  2. Requires physical stamina and strength.  May require bending, lifting, climbing and carrying.
  3. Ability to perform all work as required in environmental extremes as experienced in Wisconsin.
  4. Ability to wear all protective equipment as may be required.
