The SSND Associate
“The laity are called in a special way to make the Church present and operative in those places and circumstances where only through them can she become the salt of the earth. . .” – Vatican II, Lumen Gentium 33
In response to the call of Vatican II, SSND has opened its doors, inviting laity to also accept the challenge of living that same spirit. School Sisters of Notre Dame and associates enrich and challenge one another to share their gifts, prayer, and a commitment to risk in faith as people of peace, hope, justice, and love. Through this mutual relationship, associates and sisters together continue Christ’s mission, respond to the changing needs of the Church, and strive to live the values and ideals of the founders of the Congregation.
With an emphasis on prayer, ministry, and a sense of community, lay people respond to their own hunger for a deeper commitment beyond parish life. At times, maybe you have felt a longing to search for what feels like a missing piece in your life, leading you to greater wholeness. SSND Association might be that missing piece for you.
Do you
- desire union with God by doing God’s will?
- long for oneness of all in God?
- have a devout and earnest love of Eucharist?
- have devotion to Mary, Mother of Jesus?
- have the spirit of prayer and sacrifice?
- have a love for and commitment to those in need, especially youth, women, and persons who are poor?
- empower others to reach the fullness of their potential?
Perhaps becoming an associate is right for you.
The covenant relationship between an associate and the congregation reflects unity and diversity to further the mission of Jesus Christ in the spirit of Blessed Mother Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger and Mother Caroline Friess. In a spirit of joy, hope, and reconciliation, the sisters and associates together extend the spirit of SSND, always attentive to Mary’s directive: “Do whatever Jesus tells you.” - John 2:5
